Here in Tutéate we love receiving your results and creations. Today’s post is dedicated to a very special one: the caterpillar creation made by Sonya I.Reyes. She made this beauty using a loom and a crochet hook, and she generously explained all the steps and details to us, so all we can make one for our own. **** ENGLISH VERSION ****
Needed supplies:
– 12 peg round loom, hook & yarn needle
– 5.5mm crochet hook
– Yarn in different colors
– Scissors and fiberfill
HEAD & BODY (Make 5 balls):
Follow the video instructions to make 5 balls used for the body and head (the head is the same size as the others, just over stuffed).

CHEEKS (Make 2):
5.5mm hook with pink 4 medium worsted weight yarn
TIP 1: After the ss to join, pull the loop on the hook. This will close the gap between the first stitch and last stitch.
Foundation: Magic ring
Round 1: Ch 1, 6 sc, ss to join, TOTAL: 6 SC
Pull the short tail to close the gap in the center.
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in every sc of previous round, ss to join, TOTAL: 12 SC
Cut a long tail to sew cheeks to face, secure and weave-in ends.
EYES (Make 2)
5.5mm hook with black 4 medium worsted weight yarn and scraps of white yarn
Foundation: Magic ring
Round 1: Ch 1, hdc, dc, hdc, sc, sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc, sc into the magic ring, pull the short tail to close the gap in the center, ss to join.
Cut a long tail to sew eyes to face, secure and weave-in ends.
TENTACLES (Make 2)
5.5mm hook with red 4 medium worsted weight yarn
Special Abbreviation: sc dec = pull up a loop in next 2 stitches, yarn over, pull though all 3 loops on hook, counts as one single crochet.
Note: See tip 1 at the end of each round for the tentacles.
Foundation: Magic ring
Round 1: Ch 1, 6 sc into the magic ring, ss to join. TOTAL: 6 SC
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc into the same st of ss, 2 sc in the next, repeat the sequence for this round, ss to join. TOTAL: 12 SC
Round 3: Ch 1, 2 sc into the same st of ss, 1 sc in the next st, 2 sc in the next st, 1 in the next st, repeat this sequence for this round, ss to join. TOTAL: 18 SC
Round 4 & 5: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st around, ss to join. TOTAL: 18 SC
Round 6: Ch 1, sc dec into the same st of ss, 1 sc in the next st, sc dec in the next st, 1 sc in the next st, repeat this sequence for this rund, ss to join. TOTAL: 12 SC
Round 7: Ch 1, sc dec into the same st of ss, 1 sc in the next 2 sts, sc dec in the next st, 1 sc in the next 2 sts, ss to join. TOTAL: 9 SC
Round 8 thru 10: Ch1, 1 sc in each st around, ss to join. TOTAL: 9 SC
Stuff, cut a long tail to sew tentacle to head, secure and weave-in ends.
FEET (Make 8)
12-peg knitting loom with yellow 4 medium worsted weight yarn
NOTE: Two strands of yarn are held together throughout. My knitting looms ask for a 5 bulky yarn hence the doubling up of 4 medium yarn. If you are using a 5 bulky yarn you don’t have to double up.
1.) Place slip knot on peg #1.
2.) Cast-on with double e-wrap pulling bottom strand up and over peg for 11 pegs for a total of 12 working pegs.
3.) Work a round of e-wrap and knit for 12 pegs.
4.) Work a round of purl for 12 pegs.
5.) Repeat step 3 and 4 for 4 more rounds for a total of 6 rounds.
6.) Bind-off, stuff, and cut a long tail to sew feet to ball, secure and weave-in ends. When attaching the foot to the body, sew the inside loop only of the bind-off round.
**** VERSIÓN EN ESPAÑOL ****
Materiales utilizados:
– Telar circular de 12 postes con ganchillo y aguja lanera
– Ganchillo de crochet de 5,5mm
– Lana de distintos colores
– Tijeras y relleno
CABEZA Y CUERPO (tejer 5 bolas):
Seguir las mismas instrucciones que se muestran en el vídeo a continuación para tejer 5 bolas. La de la cabeza es del mismo tamaño que las demás pero con más relleno.

MEJILLAS (tejer 2):
Ganchillo de 5.5mm con lana rosa de grosor «4 medium worsted weight»
Consejo 1: Después de hacer un punto deslizado para unir, tirar del bucle que hay en el ganchillo. Esto hará que se cierre el espacio entre el primer y el último punto.
Inicio: Anillo mágico
Vuelta 1: 1 cadeneta, 6 puntos bajos, punto deslizado para unir, TOTAL: 6 puntos bajos
Tiramos del sobrante de hebra inicial para cerrar el espacio que queda en el centro.
Vuelta 2: 1 cad., 2 pb en cada pb de la vuelta anterior, punto deslizado para unir, TOTAL: 12 pb
Cortamos una larga hebra para coser las mejillas a la cara, fijamos y escondemos los sobrantes en el interior.
OJOS (tejer 2)
Ganchillo de 5.5mm con lana negra de grosor «4 medium worsted weight» y trozos de lana blanca
Inicio: Anillo mágico
Vuelta 1: 1 cad., medio punto alto, punto alto, medio punto alto, punto bajo, punto bajo, medio punto alto, punto alto, medio punto alto, punto bajo, punto bajo dentro del anillo mágico, tiramos del sobrante de hebra inicial para cerrar el espacio que queda en el centro, punto deslizado para unir.
Cortamos una larga hebra para coser los ojos a la cara, fijamos y escondemos los sobrantes en el interior.
TENTÁCULOS (tejer 2)
Ganchillo de 5.5mm con lana roja de grosor «4 medium worsted weight»
Abreviación especial: dis de pb = (disminución de punto bajo) pasamos el ganchillo por dentro de los siguientes 2 puntos, sacamos lazada por dentro de ellos (ahora tenemos 3 bucles en el ganchillo), y luego sacamos lazada por dentro de los 3 bucles a la vez, y eso cuenta como 1 punto bajo.
Nota: Seguir el «Consejo 1» al final de cada vuelta de los tentáculos.
Inicio: Anillo mágico
Vuelta 1: 1 cad., 6 pb dentro del anillo, punto deslizado para unir. TOTAL: 6 pb
Vuelta 2: 1 cad., 2 pb dentro de cada pb de la vuelta anterior, punto deslizado para unir. TOTAL: 12 pb
Vuelta 3: 1 cad., 2 pb dentro del mismo punto en que hicimos el deslizado, 1 pb en el siguiente punto, 2 pb en el siguiente, 1 pb en el siguiente, y así vamos repitiendo sobre toda la vuelta, punto deslizado para unir. TOTAL: 18 pb
Vuelta 4 y 5: 1 cad, pb dentro de cada pb de la vuelta anterior, punto deslizado para unir. TOTAL: 18 pb
Vuelta 6: 1 cad, 1 dis de pb dentro del mismo punto en que hicimos el deslizado, 1 pb en el siguiente punto, 1 dis de pb en el siguiente punto, 1 pb en el siguiente punto, y así vamos repitiendo sobre toda la vuelta, punto deslizado para unir. TOTAL: 12 pb
Vuelta 7: 1 cad, 1 dis de pb dentro del mismo punto en que hicimos el deslizado, 1 pb en los siguientes 2 puntos, 1 dis de pb en el siguiente punto, 1 pb en los siguientes 2 puntos, y así vamos repitiendo, punto deslizado para unir. TOTAL: 9 pb
Vuelta 8 hasta la 10: 1 cad, 1 pb en cada punto, punto deslizado para unir. TOTAL: 9 pb
Rellenar, cortar una larga hebra para coser cada tentáculo a la cabeza, fijar y esconder los sobrantes por el interior.
PIES (tejer 8)
Telar circular de 12 postes con lana amarilla de grosor «4 medium worsted weight»
NOTA: Si tu lana es de grosor «4 medium», utiliza 2 hebras a la vez para tejer sobre el telar, como si tuvieras una única hebra del doble de grosor. Si tienes lana de grosor «5», utiliza directamente una hebra.
1.) Colocamos el nudo corredizo sobre el poste #1.
2.) Montamos 11 postes más envolviendo cada poste 2 veces y sacando el bucle inferior por encima. En total tenemos 12 postes con bucle sobre los que trabajar.
3.) Trabajamos 1 vuelta envolviendo y tejiendo los 12 postes.
4.) Trabajamos 1 vuelta tejiendo del revés los 12 postes.
5.) Repetimos el paso 3 y 4 durante 4 vueltas más para tener un total de 6 vueltas.
6.) Cerramos los puntos, rellenamos, y dejamos una larga hebra para coser el pie a la bola, fijar y esconder los sobrantes por el interior. Cuando unimos el pie a la bola del cuerpo, sólo cosemos utilizando la parte interior de la vuelta de cierre.
